A dissertation is a document written at the time of completion of a program of study. It comprises of a compiled document consisting of research, theories, experiments, conclusions and arguments on a single topic. A completion of dissertation states that a student is an expert in his/her field and has met all the academic criterion on a particular program requires with respect to their topic.

What is the Importance of Dissertation?
Dissertation is always necessary to attain an advanced degree in a particular program of study. Dissertations are normally written to acquire doctoral or PHD level degrees. The difference between a thesis and dissertation is that thesis is generally written in Master's level requiring a narrower topic.

Who Reads a Dissertation?
Dissertation is read by graduate committee and not anyone else. Dissertation is normally kept by the university after receiving it. It is kept in a library of a university. Sometimes there is a separate section in libraries dedicated for the students of that university where dissertations are kept

How can Dissertation Affect Graduation?
The two major requirements of a dissertation for all doctoral programs include submission of dissertation in the university and the defense of the dissertation. After these main requirements are met the members the graduate committee consisting of a major advisor, three other members of the department and an outside member of the committee signs on it. Without these signatures the student cannot obtain the degree.
